The workplace is changing a lot and Gen Z is the reason for this change. As Gen Z enters the workforce employers are seeing a difference in what they want what they think is important and how they measure success.

Gen Z does not want to work in office jobs with fixed hours and strict rules. They want to be able to work from anywhere choose their hours and have a good balance between work and life. For Generation Z being productive is about getting things done not about sitting in an office for a number of hours.

Companies that do not offer flexibility will have a time attracting young people to work for them.

1. Flexibility is what Gen Z wants most

Traditional office jobs have fixed schedules and strict rules.. Generation Z wants to be able to work from anywhere and choose their own hours. They want to be able to take care of themselves and have a balance between work and life. If they do not have this flexibility they will look for jobs.

2. Gen Z wants to work for a purpose

Generation Z cares about the impact their work has on the world. They do not just want a job that pays well they want a job that means something. They want to work for companies that care about the things they do like taking care of the earth being innovative and being fair to everyone.

If a job does not have a purpose Generation Z will not want to stay in it for long.

3. Gen Z wants to move up

The traditional way of moving up in a company starting at the bottom and working your way up is too slow for Generation Z. They want to learn things get new skills and move up fast. If they do not see themselves moving up they will look for jobs.

Generation Z is very focused on getting skills that will always be useful no matter what changes in the job market.

4. Working from home has changed everything

With the rise of working from home Generation Z can now work for companies over the world without having to move. This means that where you live does not limit what job you can have. A person in one city can work for a company in another city or even in another country.

This has made it so that Generation Z does not have to rely on office jobs.

5. Generation Z cares about their health

Generation Z is open about taking care of their mental health. They will leave a job if it is too stressful or if the company does not care about their well-being. They want a job that allows them to have a balance between work and life and a company that supports them.

6. Generation Z wants to learn skills

Generation Z is not as interested in having a fancy job title. They want to learn skills and be able to do different things. They know that in todays job market it is important to be able to adapt and learn things. So they will often work on their projects get certified in new skills and learn new things outside of their regular job.

This means that Generation Z is not as dependent on one company for their career. What This Means for Employers

What This Means for Employers

Generation Z is not against working they just do not like the way of doing things. Employers need to wake up and realize that they need to change. Companies that want to attract and keep employees need to think about what they want and how they can provide it.

Employers should focus on things, like:

  • Letting employees work from anywhere
  • Helping employees learn skills and move up
  • Having a purpose that means something
  • Creating an supportive work environment
  • Caring about employees mental health
  • Giving employees the chance to learn new skills

Companies that do these things will be able to attract Generation Z and build a team.

Final Thoughts

The workplace is. Generation Z is leading the way. The companies that will succeed are the ones that understand that it is not Gen Z that needs to change it is the workplace that needs to evolve. Generation Z is changing the way we work and the companies that adapt will be the ones that thrive.
