The Right Way to Turn Down the Job offer

All of us are conscious regarding what our first impression should be and the recent trend on social media further endorses this fact, but have we thought through how our last impression can be a statement in itself?

Natalie Lynch-Clark, a senior recruiter on LinkedIn, shared with her network how a rejection from a candidate left her in awe.

She was looking for a perfect candidate for a job in Sales Dept. of her workplace and eventually selected one on basis of his promising skills and experiences but following the job offer she received a heartfelt note as well as a gift from the candidate when he refused to join her team.

She further added how the chosen candidate had already 4 offers on the table and he in fact reached her to discuss which offer is beneficial for him in the future where he ended up going for a start-up and growing there with the team.

The note she received was surprisingly handwritten alongwith a thank-you gift. She shared how throughout her career she never saw this much thoughtfulness and humbleness from a candidate who just rejected the job offer.

The handwritten note was:

I want to thank you again for everything and emphasize how difficult of a decision it was to not accept LinkedIn’s offer. I think the world of LinkedIn, its culture, and its people, including yourself. I hope our paths cross again in the future and if there’s ever anything I can do to help, don’t hesitate to reach out.”

This heart-warming incident makes us ponder over how much magical our last impressions can be.
