The role of the software development industry in today’s world cannot be easily overlooked. From creating websites to building applications for the mobile operating system every business needs Engineers/Developers to solve their current business challenges which make them a precious asset. Unfortunately, the number of engineers available isn’t growing as much as the demand for them is.
From the World’s fastest developing tech nations to the Multi Dollar Invested IT Tech Giant everyone is struggling to find Software Engineers. According to U.S Labor Statistics, as of December 2020, the global talent shortage amounted to 40 million skilled workers worldwide and by 2030, it is expected to reach 85.2 million. Companies worldwide risk losing $8.4 trillion in revenue because of a lack of skilled talent. Giants like Amazon, Facebook and Google have expressed concerns over talent supply in the growing data need.
So the question arises here Is there any possible way to fight the development of talent shortage? The answer is yes. Companies need to Rethink how they hire Developers.
The recruitment process, judging candidates on their communication and everything else but not technical skills is a main problem. People start hiring candidates who meet a certain GPA and dress properly than how good they can code or adapt to new coding.
Another way to solve technical crunch is to train resources. Google has already started Cloud Trainings and a Famous Plan for Pakistan “Cloud Seekho” to train Million resources in IT. Similarly academies like Udemy and Coursera are playing a vital role in bringing non-tech graduates into IT support roles.
