Money Heist left quite a mark on our minds. From being an emotional roller coaster to action packed and thrill, it kept us craving for more in every season. But did you ever imagine how strongly it conveyed us fundamentals of corporates? No? Let me recall for you:
- No Emotional Attachments at work:
Remember when the Professor said No emotional attachments in Season 1? He didn’t mean no Friendships. He meant to have your mental balance when your friend does wrong. At times in office, we see people with close connections being favored for something more than they deserve OR being ignored for their misconduct, attitude simply because they are dear to somebody in position?
When you reach a point where you have powers to make decisions, do not benefit your best friend/best colleague only because he is your colleague and you have a heart for him. Do not make decisions with Emotion. If your best friend/best employee breaches the SOPs, you must deal and communicate the same way you would have with any other employee.
- FOCUS on Mission: Everything will fall in place
Did you remember how Berlin lost track of the plan and ordered execution on Monica? It broke the team. Tokyo turned Rebel and they let her out. The Professor had to do so much damage control. Even Moscow lost his life in the chaos.
When you do not focus on Mission and the path required for the mission and indulge yourself in hatred for people who don’t align with your thoughts – YOU WASTE ENERGY. You need to conserve energy in making things possible for you. Everything else can be dealt later.
- Rechecking can save you from 90% of the problems you face:
Money Heist shows that most of the problems the squad faced was because they left the end loose. Like Rio did not recheck if the connections were actually untapped and unregistered of mobile phones he used to make the call to Tokyo. Like Monica did not make sure of Arturo’s plans for relationship before falling for him. Like Nairobi did not recheck if the area was cleared before appearing in front of the window and getting shot. Like Salva did not recheck his belongings after coming back from the Bank of Spain and aided leaking information. Like Professor did not recheck if Helsinki actually got rid of the car job he assigned him.
Rechecking saves lives. So many of you may have sent emails you wish you could press an undo to. Rechecking saves you from a lot of trouble because at the end, we are all humans and bound to make mistakes.
- Try and Fail is better than Simply Fail:
Did you notice that at so many occasions in Money Heist, the gang tried impossible things which they believed they could not do but still tried doing. Like Tokyo did not know the surgery but tried doing it with the help of a doctor. Even without a doctor, she decided to finish what she started in Nairobi because she would die anyway if she stopped.
To try and fail is far more satisfying than simply failing. In your corporate careers, do not give up anything without trying. Even if you don’t accomplish what you wanted, you can accomplish something, be it peace of mind or self-satisfaction that you need at the moment. As Mark Zuckerberg said – biggest risk is not taking the risk.
